ROSE TWP., CARROLL CO., Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – The condition of a 45-year-old man caught in the auger system of a farm silo in Rose Township in Carroll County is not known.

But the Carrollton Fire Department says they used a new ladder truck to cut into the top of the 60-foot tall silo to free the victim.

From there, ropes and rigging were used to lower the man to the ground for transport to the hospital.

A Carroll County Sheriff’s deputy was the first on the scene Sunday evening, ascending the silo’s ladder and applying a tourniquet to control the man’s bleeding.

The farm is along June Road near Route 171, south of Waynesburg.

The Mohawk Valley Joint Fire District says a medical helicopter could not be used due to weather conditions.

Crews also had to rig up a ventilation setup for inside the silo.

The entire operation took over two hours.
